Compassionate Cancer Counselling

For all adults affected by cancer; those with cancer, their loved ones and those bereaved by cancer

1.

People with cancer

As a counselling professional specializing in cancer, I provide individual counselling sessions to support clients through their  journey. This includes addressing both the physical and emotional challenges of living with cancer.

2.

Loved ones of someone with cancer

Cancer has just as big an impact on people close to someone with a cancer diagnosis. Having a space to take care of yourself is equally important.

3.

Bereaved by cancer

Any loss or bereavement is of course incredibly challenging. However this is often complicated by specific issues relating to a death from cancer.

Therapy Sessions
My Approach

My approach to counselling is a person-centred one. It revolves around creating a safe and empathetic environment where clients feel understood and supported. I do not work to any rigid system, preferring to respond to whatever someone wants to talk about.

About me

I have been a qualified counsellor for over 15 years, 9 of which have been as a specialist cancer counsellor.

I have also had my own cancer journey. Whilst every cancer journey is different, I do share the experience of being diagnosed, of enduring treatment and adjusting to the world around me.

Experience

I qualified as a counsellor in 2009 and since then have worked for the NHS, in higher education and most recently at Penny Brohn UK, a national cancer charity. I was also a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Care for nearly 20 years. I have worked with hundreds of clients affected by cancer and understand very well the challenges that come from that. For some it may be processing what has happened and how to move forward after cancer. For others it may be finding a way to live with an incurable diagnosis. The challenges for family members can be just as great; both supporting loved ones with cancer, or sadly for some dealing with loss of someone from cancer. Plus, all those other things that there were there before cancer and are impacted by it; jobs, relationships, other physical and mental health issues.

What to do next?

If you are interested in finding out more, please email me, (allon@compassionatecancercounselling.co.uk) and I am happy to arrange a free 30 min session to discuss what you may want and to make sure you feel comfortable working with me. We can also discuss the cost of each session (I have a standard rate and a reduced rate for those struggling financially). I suggest working in groups of 6 sessions to keep the work focused, but I am happy to be led by what you would prefer.
